The family of a Celtic fan who disappeared from his home almost two weeks ago have made a public appeal to thousands of his fellow supporters for help in tracing him.

An image of John Murphy, along with details of how to contact the police, was flashed up on a giant screen at yesterday's Celtic v Inverness Premiership match at Celtic Park.

Relatives of the father of five are hoping some of the 55,600 people present to see Celtic parade their Premiership title trophy may have clues to his whereabouts.

It is hoped that some fans may have encountered him since then.

Mr Murphy, 52, of Dennistoun, has not been seen since Tuesday, May 12 when his family discovered he had not made it to his job at a landscaping supervisor for a housing association.

They are increasingly worried about him and say it is uncharacteristic of Mr Murphy to disappear. They have appealed for anyone with information to contact officers by calling 101.

His son, also John Murphy, who was at the match, said on Twitter: "It sunk in seeing the old man on the screen today - hopefully spread the word out further."

Mr Murphy's wife Tricia, 49, said that the father of the five is a 'quiet, family man' who lives for his children and Celtic.

Many of the club's fans have already supported the family by retweeting their appeals for information or via Facebook.

The appeal came on the day Celtic received the Scottish Premiership trophy, having won the title earlier this month without kicking a ball, when Aberdeen's defeat to Dundee United handed the title to the Hoops.

Manager Ronny Deila joined yesterday's party by delighting supporters with his trademark fist-pumping Ronny Roar celebration.

One fan posted a picture of a medal on Twitter and claimed: "Ronny Deila just gave my kid his champions medal.

"Unbelievable day!"
