At around 1am yesterday, the 24-year-old victim was in his home in the east end of the city, when several men came to his door.
The gang entered the property in Lamlash Crescent and assaulted him. They then left in an unknown direction.
He was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary and later transferred to the Southern General Hospital.
Hospital staff described his condition as serious but stable.
Detective Sergeant Scott Douglas of London Road CID said today: "This was a particularly nasty attack on this young man within his own home in the middle of the night.
"We are keen to trace anyone who may have information or who may have heard a disturbance in the vicinity of Lamlash Crescent in the early hours of October 8."
