Billy Connolly and Ronnie Corbett are leading names on a list of top comics who have been immortalised on a new set of stamps.

Among the 10 stamps published from today, April Fool's Day, there are individuals, duos and groups who have brought wit and laughter to millions

Alongside Billy and Ronnie are Norman Wisdom, Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise, Spike Milligan, Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders, Monty Python, Victoria Wood and Lenny Henry.

The stamps mark the contribution to the world of entertainment and comedy by some of the nation's most cherished performers across the decades since the 1950s.

Andrew Hammond, Head of Stamps and Collectibles at Royal Mail, said: "For decades, the UK has long boasted some of the most influential and significant comedy talent in the world.

"This set of stamps rightly pays tribute to the comedians who have made the nation laugh out loud at their ground-breaking comedy genius."

Glasgow's Lord Provost Sadie Docherty said: "Billy Connolly is a comedy legend and is loved across the globe for the laughter he creates. He is a deserving freeman of this city. His inclusion in this set of Comedy Great stamps confirms his genius and appeal. I'm sure it will bring a proud smile to Glaswegians."
