Tributes have poured in to an eight-year-old boy who died in a cemetery tragedy.

Ciaran Williamson is believed to have been playing with two friends in Craigton Cemetery on Berryknowes Road last night around 7.25pm when the incident happened.

The youngster was rushed to Yorkhill hospital by paramedics but was pronounced dead a short time later.

A ten-year-old boy remains in hospital following the tragedy, in a stable condition, and another 10-year-old boy was taken to South Glasgow hospital but has since been released.

Residents are understood to have raised concerns about safety in the graveyard to authorities and have been left shaken by the accident.

Locals, friends and relatives, including his father Ryan, have paid tribute to the youngster on social media.

Dad Ryan said: “My boy this is not good bye becos [sic] I'll see you again soon buddy I love you to moon and back and not a second of a day that goes bye will I not miss you but your memory will [be] in our hearts forever

“We will never stop speaking about you so until we meet again wee man you sleep tight and remember dad loves and misses you more than words can describe.” 

Isabella Henriques also wrote: “ To Our Great Wee Nephew Ciaran Whose Wee Life was taken so Suddenly. You Will Always Be Remembered By Your Great Auntie Bella and Great Uncle Mike Our Deepest Sympathies to Your Dad and Mum Nans and Grandads and all your aunties and Uncles.”

A Police spokeswoman said: " Around 7.25pm on Tuesday May 26 police and emergency services responded to reports of three boys having been injured within Craigton Cemetery in Cardonald.

An 8-year-old boy was taken to Yorkhill where doctors pronounced him dead. A 10-year-old boy was also taken to Yorkhill where hospital staff described his condition as stable.

Another 10-year-old boy was taken to South Glasgow University Hospital and has since been discharged.

"Enquiries are continuing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the accident however officers are not treating it as suspicious.

“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
