A LARGE-scale search is now under way for a 71-year-old woman who has been missing for four days.

Wilhelmina Rooney, known as Anne, was last seen by her husband at their home in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire on Monday.

Police say her disappearance is completely out of character and the search for the missing pensioner has been intensified.

A helicopter and search dogs have been deployed.

Inspector Mark Leonard from East Kilbride Police Office said: "It is completely out of character for Anne to go missing and her family and police are becoming increasingly concerned for her, as there have been no confirmed sightings of her since she was last seen on Monday morning and all efforts to trace her have been unsuccessful.

"Anne likes to walk in the local area and regularly goes to the James Hamilton Heritage Park and Kittoch Water.

"She also shops at the local Morrisons store and travels by public transport into East Kilbride town centre.

"I would ask anyone who has seen a woman matching her description to come forward to police, as they may have information that is vital to this investigation."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at East Kilbride on 101.
