Comic book writer Mark Millar has been made an MBE by the Prince of Wales.

Millar, whose Kick-Ass creation became a hit movie starring Nicolas Cage, received an MBE for services to literature.

Another of his publications Wanted was also made into a movie featuring Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy.

From his base in Glasgow the writer has been a much sought after figure in Hollywood.

Mr Millar said: "This is what everyone says but this is very unexpected, I do the job because I love it and any kind of award I just see as a lovely extra."

Speaking about the success he and other UK comic book writers have had in Hollywood, he added: "You'd imagine there would be enough Americans that could do this job but they outsource all these jobs to Scottish people.

"I think what it is, is probably the unusual perspective that British people bring. The American writers have been doing it for half a century and I think they'd quite like a fresh voice."
