The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after an emaciated dog was found at an industrial estate in Wishaw.
Scotland's animal welfare charity was alerted on Tuesday, December 2 when a member of the public discovered the dog within a disused unit and handed her into a police station in Hamilton.
The female Staffordshire bull terrier cross is now receiving care at the charity's Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre, where she has been named Annie.
Inspector Andrea Middleton said: "Annie is severely emaciated and looks like a walking skeleton.
"She's rather distinctive as she has one blue eye and one brown eye so we're hoping someone will recognise her and be able to tell us who owned her.
"We have suspicions that she may be from the Motherwell area but unfortunately we can't go into any further detail about that at this stage.
"Annie is quite bright despite the suffering she has been caused and, although she still has a long way to go, we are hopeful she will make a recovery.
"If anyone can help us with our enquiries we would urge them to call us on 03000 999 999."
Causing an animal unnecessary suffering is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
