THE Evening Times is celebrating success after receiving several nominations in this year's Scottish Press Awards.

Our photographer Nick Ponty has been shortlisted for Sports Photographer of the Year for his work for the Evening Times and our sister title The Herald.

The Evening Times has been nominated for Front Page of the Year for our coverage of the Clutha helicopter crash.

And Janice Bell, our newest columnist, has been shortlisted for Columnist of the Year.

Evening Times editor Tony Carlin said: "I'm delighted that the excellence of our staff has been recognised with these nominations for the Press Awards.

"Each of them has made an outstanding contribution over the past year and it is pleasing that their efforts have been acknowledged."

Our sister titles, The Herald and the Sunday Herald, have also achieved recognition in almost all categories.

Among the successes are The Herald's Gerry Braiden and Helen Puttick, who are in the running for the highly acclaimed Reporter of the Year gong.

Helen is also shortlisted for Scoop of the Year for her tale about a Scottish doctor who helped his patients kill themselves.

The Herald and Times group has the highest number of shortlisted entries for any daily publisher with a totalof 25 across 19 categories.

Our sister website heraldscotland.com was nominated in the Innovation of the Year Category for its paywall which was brought in last year.
