A BLANKET of fog and freezing temperatures gripped Glasgow this morning, causing traffic problems and even leading to the closure of a city school.

Chirnsyde Primary, in Milton, was shut after its heating system failed over the weekend.
Engineers repaired the fault and the school reopened to pupils at lunchtime.
The Met Office issued a yellow “Be Aware” warning across Glasgow and the Strathclyde area for fog this morning, with visibility described by the weather service as “very poor”.
And although the temperature at its lowest was 0°C, it felt more like -2°C, with the wind chill factor included.
Road accidents in the city and surrounding areas in fog led to misery for commuters.
On the M74, traffic queued from Junction 4, Maryville, to Junction 3 Daldowie because of an accident. All three lanes of the motorway southbound had reopened by 9am, but the knock-on effect saw queues build up.
On the A8 at Chapelhall, in North Lanarkshire, near the junction with the B799, there was slow traffic until just before 9am, also due to an accident.
Laura Young, from the Met Office, said: “Glasgow saw frost and freezing patches, as well as fog this morning with some expected to continue into the afternoon.
“The maximum temperature for the day is 7°C but, depending on the cloud cover, it might feel colder than that.
“Over the next few days a warmer front is coming into Scotland so it will be a bit milder than it has been, but that could lead to some rain.”
