The family of missing Wilhelmina Rooney have made a heart felt plea for her to come home.

Speaking from East Kilbride police station this afternoon, her daughter Alison Parker begged her 71-year-old mum, who is known as Anne, to get in touch.

She was joined by her husband Arthur, sister Elaine, brother Paul and dad Edward.

Fighting back tears, she said: "Hi Mum.

"Dad, Paul,Elaine, Arthur and me are all here today to tell you how much we love you and how much we miss you.

"Andrew is waiting at home for you. Nothing is the same without you, mum.

"Your grandchildren, wee Holly, Lauren and Lucy, all miss their gran too.

"They can't wait to give you big hugs and kisses.

"Please mum, please come home.

"Or just even let us know you're safe. We promise that there won't be loads of questions when you come back.

"You're not in any trouble, we just want you back home with us."

In the emotional plea, Alison said the family "stick together" and reassured her mother that they could "fix anything." when she returns home.

They also thanked the police and public for their help in the search efforts, and added: "Please, the job isn't done until we find my mum safe and well.

"If you see, or think you see, someone matching my mum's description, I beg you to lift the phone and contact Police Scotland on 101."

Turning to her sister Elaine, she broke down in tears and the pair hugged each other while Inspector Mark Leonard of East Kilbride police spoke about the investigation.

Mr Leonard said officers are investigating a reported sighting of Anne in East Kilbride town centre on Monday January 19. He also confirmed her bus pass is believed to have been used to travel on buses operated by First Bus and Whitelaws in the East End of Glasgow on the same day.

Inspector Leonard revealed Anne had gone missing once before, "around eight years ago" for "a couple of days". He said police are very concerned for her wellbeing, particularly due to the bad weather this week but she had been in"good health" before her disappearance.

The 71-year-old is described as white, 5ft in height and of medium build with short grey hair and a ruddy complexion. She was last seen on Monday morning around 10am, and was wearing a black winter jacket when she left her home at Thistle Place in East Kilbride.

She did not have her passport with her, or a phone but possibly had an iPod touch with her when she left home on Monday morning.

Inspector Leonard said: "We are doing an enquiry with the bus companies and CCTV on the buses.

"If she does have an iPod touch with her, we will look at whether she has accessed the wifi on any of the buses too."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
