A DEVOTED relative today told how proud she is of dangerous fugitive Martin Hamilton.

Exactly a week on from a police appeal to trace the 53-year-old - nicknamed Hammy - the family member sent him an online message of support.

As reported by the Evening Times, Hamilton went on the run from police last month.

In a message of support, the female relative, from Maryhill, told the convict she was "proud" of his past actions and wished him luck.

She added: "Hammy, take care, love you."

Hamilton was released from prison on licence in September and is now wanted by authorities.

Prosecutors and police have remained tight-lipped about when the 53-year-old was last seen.

The Evening Times understands he had been living in Maryhill for the last eight months.

Members of the public have been urged not to approach him but raise the alarm with police if he is seen.

No details have been released about how Hamilton is alleged to have breached his licence conditions. A police spokeswoman said: "Police Scotland are urgently seeking the whereabouts of Martin Joseph Hamilton.

"Police Scotland are concerned that Hamilton may be dangerous and would urge members of the public not to approach him but to contact police on 101 if he is seen."

Hamilton is also understood to have links to the Edinburgh and previously lived there.

However, he is thought to have moved to Glasgow after his release, to help take care of his mother, who is in her 70s.

One Maryhill local, who did not wish to be identified, said: "Hammy is a well known face around these parts.

"He's been spotted out and about a far bit since he's been back, down the local shops and things like that.

"His wee mum is getting on now and he was meant to be helping to take care of her."

Meanwhile, police are searching for a prisoner who failed to return after unescorted leave in Glasgow.

James Lieser, a convicted murderer, did not return to did not return to HMP Greenock on Friday. The 38-year-old was last seen by his family in Parkhead, at around 3.30pm the same day.
