Papua New Guinea athlete Toua Udia has denied an allegation of sexual assault after he was arrested by police in the east end of Glasgow on Monday July 21.

He was charged over an alleged incident involving another man in a toilet at a Tesco store on Dalmarnock Road.

Udia, who lifted in the men's 77kg category at the Clyde Auditorium on Sunday afternoon, appeared on petition at Glasgow Sheriff Court charged with offences under the Sexual Offences Scotland Act last Tuesday.

He was due in court for a preliminary hearing again today before returning to Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Around 5.10pm on Monday July 21 police received a report of an incident at Tesco on Dalmarnock Road.

"A 22-year-old man was was arrested in connection with an alleged assault. He appeared at court and is due to reappear this week."
