HOUSEHOLDERS had to be evacuated from their homes after fire broke out at a nearby football ground in Glasgow's South Side.
The blaze tore through the social club at junior football club Benburb's Tinto Park in Govan last night.
The building was well alight when firefighters arrived at the Craigton Drive ground at 9pm.
Police evacuated nearby homes over fears that gas canisters in might explode.
No one was injured and the blaze was restricted to the social club at the venue.
Tinto Park is one of Scotland's most historic football grounds and Benburb FC was formed in 1885.
A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We had numerous calls from members of the public alerting us to the fire."
A spokeswoman from Police Scotland said: "The houses nearby were evacuated because there were gas canisters in one of the garages.
"The residents were went back into their homes around an hour later."
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
