MUSICIANS could hit the right note with a guitar signed by rock legend Noel Gallagher when he was in Glasgow.

The former Oasis frontman, who was at the Hydro on Saturday, was only too happy to sign the guitar to help the Clutha Trust.

The charity is auctioning it off and bids have already topped the £1000 mark.

Stagehand Billy Coyle, who works for Scotia Events Services, approached the rocker backstage.

He said: "I explained to him what The Clutha Trust was about. Within about 30 seconds he was more than happy to sign the guitar and said: 'Why not take a photo to

authenticate it?'

"The guitar is an Epiphone Casino from 1995 which is the same guitar type that Noel used to play. He thought the work The Clutha Trust does is fantastic."

The signature will be covered in vinyl so it doesn't smudge or fade.

Dutch Rukowski, a volunteer with the Trust, said: "We got a message from someone who said they had a guitar and wanted to donate it.

"It wasn't until we got it that we realised it was such a special guitar. It had been lying for a year unplayed and needed refurbishing."

The Guitar Workshop on Argyle Street refurbishes all the guitars that are donated to the charity for free.

For this guitar they had to level, crown and polish the frets, sand down the machine heads, do a body polish and fitted a hand carved bone nut, and much more.

The guitar is worth approximately £600 but the addition of Noel's signature will set the price soaring.

The Clutha Trust aims to help children from underprivileged backgrounds break into the music industry.

They work with children from The Princes Trust and youth groups helping them learn how to play musical instruments if they show the desire to do so and also has a guestlist for them to attend shows at the Barrowland.

The trust hopes to put on a show in September at the Barrowlands.

Mr Coyle said: "The improvement in the kids has been incredible, we are hoping to link in with some junior football clubs who will train kids who want to in football as well."

The charity has also got Idlewild, The Libertines, The View, The Who and Kodaline to sign guitars and equipment for them in the past. Spandau Ballet have also signed programmes and CD's to be auctioned.

Anyone who wants to bid on the guitar can do so by emailing the charity at thecluthatrust@gmail.com.
