POLICE are hunting a thug who attacked a man with a bicycle.

The 46-year-old suffered serious hand injuries in the horrific daylight attack.

He is in hospital and it is understood his hand was fractured in the incident.

It happened as he walked in Kilbowie Road, Clydebank, near the Clyde Shopping Centre, shortly before 4pm on Sunday.

Emergency services raced to the scene and the man was taken by ambulance to the Western Infirmary.

A source told the Evening Times a bicycle was used as a "weapon" in the attack.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "At around 3.50pmon Sunday, police were called to a report of a serious assault in Kilbowie Road, Clydebank.

"A 46-year-old man was seriously assaulted and taken to the Western Infirmary for treatment to hand injuries."

Hospital staff said he was in a stable condition.

The Evening Times understands officers are following a positive line of inquiry.

Meanwhile, police sealed off a Clydebank street for more than an hour after reports of a person carrying a firearm.

They were called at 10am on Monday.

Officers carried out extensive searches, but police found no trace of any firearm and the search was called off.
