Man killed in Blantyre car crash horror

AN ELDERLY man died after being hit by a car in South Lanarkshire.

Robert Holmes, 79, was crossing Burnbrae Road at its junction with Victoria Street in Blantyre at around 5.40pm on Saturday when he was hit by a Grey Honda CRV.

He was taken to Hairmyres Hospital where he died later that evening.

The driver of the car, a 61-year-old woman, was not hurt.

Police are appealing for information about the crash.

Sergeant John Tait, Road Policing Unit, Lanarkshire, said: "We have managed to speak to one person who witnessed the crash, however, we would still appeal for anyone else who saw what happened to come forward."

Officers can be called on the non-emergency number 101.
