A man threatened a female shop worker with a large kitchen knife as he robbed a Bellshill pharmacy on Saturday.

The man entered the Lloyds Pharmacy on 106 North Road at around 7.20pm on Saturday, January 10 and threatened the female employee behind the counter with a large kitchen knife.

He stole a quantity of prescription medication and £200 in cash before leaving the premises and turning left along Keith Street and then left on to Croftpark Street.

The suspect is described as around 30 years old, 5'11", slim and he was wearing light coloured jeans and a navy blue or grey coloured Berghaus jacket with the hood up.

He was also carrying a white and green Lloyds bag.

Detective Constable David Lamont said: "Thankfully the young woman working behind the counter wasn't hurt however this was a very frightening experience for her.

"The suspect not only stole a three figure sum of money, but he also took a quantity of prescription medication, which when not prescribed by a doctor, could have dangerous consequences.

"A number of witnesses saw the man heading along Keith Street and on to Croftpark Street and I would ask anyone else who was in the area at the time and saw someone fitting this description to contact Wishaw CID on the 101 non emergency number.
