The 25-year-old suffered serious injuries in the attack, which police are treating as attempted murder.

The alarm was raised about 5.10am yesterday when officers were initially called to a report of a incident in Old Rutherglen Road, Gorbals.

When they attended, they found the injured man in the road.

He was taken to the Victoria Infirmary, where hospital staff today described his condition as "serious but stable".

It is understood detectives have yet to speak at length to the victim, who is still seriously ill in hospital.

Officers are reviewing CCTV footage and carrying out door-to-door inquiries in an

attempt to find out more about the attack.

A section of road at Old Rutherglen Road and McNeil Street

remained cordoned off yesterday.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with

information to contact them to help catch the attacker.

Witnesses and

those who have information about the

incident were today being urged to contact police.

A police spokeswoman said: "Officers were called to an

incident in Old Rutherglen Road at about 5.10am on Boxing

Day.

"A 25-year-old man was found seriously

injured. Officers are treating the incident as attempted murder."

Anyone with any

information is asked to call Gorbals police

office on 101.
