A CONTROVERSIAL planning application to turn a former Scottish Water site into housing for asylum seekers has been axed.
Proposals were submitted to the council to develop the industrial space in Balmore Road, north Glasgow, into short-stay accommodation.
But the council confirmed on Wednesday that the plans had been withdrawn.
The housing development would have been for newly-arrived asylum seekers to the city, who are currently housed in the Red Road flats.
The high-rise blocks at Red Road are due to be demolished next year.
