Robbie Finlayson was found dead on a road near Lanark, South Lanarkshire on Monday September 23.
The 22-year-old from Hamilton is believed to have been struck by the Mercedes Actros lorry after leaving a friend's house in Lesmahagow in the early hours of the morning.
Officers trying to trace the lorry were contacted by the driver after they made an appeal last week.
The vehicle will be examined by officers and the driver will be interviewed, police said.
The driver of a car which struck Mr Finlayson after he was dragged under the lorry has also contacted police.
No one has been charged over the incident.
Police still want to speak to the driver of a Renault Traffic Crew or Vauxhall Movano which they believe may have also struck Mr Finlayson without knowing.
Inspector Calum Maider said: "We have now traced the driver of a Mercedes Actros heavy goods vehicle which was travelling on the B7078 and struck Mr Finlayson. This vehicle is now the subject of a forensic and mechanical examination. The driver will be interviewed in due course."
