A PROBE was continuing today into the death of an elderly woman who was crushed by a minibus.

The 71-year-old died in hospital four days after the incident in South Lanarkshire at the Greencross Care Home in Cambuslang.

Mrs Jack died on Friday afternoon and a probe has now been launched by Police Scotland and the Care Inspectorate to establish exactly what happened.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "At 3.25pm on Monday, January 19, police were called to a report of a road traffic collision outside Greencross Care Home in Tabernacle St, Cambuslang.

"Our inquiries are continuing."

Mrs Jack was part of group who were returning from a day trip on Monday afternoon.

Emergency services raced to the scene and both Mrs Jack and the minibus driver were taken to Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride.

The driver is not understood to have been seriously injured.

But, Mrs Jack required life support treatment.

She died four days later from her injuries.

A spokesman for the facility said: "The staff are completely devastated by this tragic accident.

He added: "We have spoken with her family and given them an account of the circumstances."

"We have been kept fully informed by the service and have been supporting them at this difficult time.

"Our first priority is always the safety and well-being of service users.

"This matter will be fully investigated by Police Scotland and we will support that investigation.
