IT helped launch the careers of Glasgow bands including Travis and Belle and Sebastian.

Now, pubgoers are being given the change to own a piece of one of the city's most famous watering holes.

Regulars who mourned the loss of the Halt Bar, on Woodlands Road, are being given the chance to recreate the pub's atmosphere in their own homes.

The horseshoe-shaped marble bar where Celtic and Rangers fans watched Old Firm games side-by-side is up for grabs to the highest bidder.

Glasgow-based vintage restoration firm Love Salvage - www.lovesalvage.com - is selling the bar from the much-loved venue.

Dozens of people have expressed an interest on the firm's Facebook page but the temporary owners said they are only looking for "serious offers".

One posted "Can't believe this is being sold. Wish I could have it as my kitchen."

Another posted: "Beautiful! C'mon pub owners, rip out that Formica and veneered chipboard and get in the real thing."

The venue was the springboard for a host of Glasgow artists including Travis, Belle and Sebastian and Del Amitri and opened in 1991.

Situated opposite the famous statue of cartoon character Lobey Dosser, it was named after a former city tram stop.

The main bar, popular with students, residents and musicians, had a Saltire flag on its roof, bearing the Halt Bar name, and it regularly turned up at Scotland football internationals.

Some people claim to have seen the Clash perform on the street outside and the venue hosted regular open nights for up and coming acts.

The bar has been taken over by West brewing, which owns a bar and restaurant in the City's East End and re-opened in July.
