There's nothing quite like Hogmanay in Glasgow and after a truly incredible year for the city, New Year's Eve is set to bring 2014 to an end in style.

George Square Hogmanayday celebrations have been unveiled and there's something for everyone across Glasgow - from teens to families - with a crammed programme of activities throughout the day.

Activities include a Baby Disco at the Alpine Bar where parents can party the day away in style with their little ones as well as face painting in the Christmas workshops.

As they day moves into evening, there will be live ceilidh music from Gunna Sound to start the celebrations and get revellers into the party spirit.

Gunna Sound's repertoire includes a full selection of round the room Ceilidh dances, and an extensive song list that usually invokes the comment at the end of the night, 'so you're not just a Ceilidh band!' The boys try and cater for all tastes, and their musical influences range from John Prine, Steve Earle, and the Saw Doctors to Norman MacLean, Graham Mitchell and the Wallochmor Ceilidh Band, along with some good humour and craic.

Between 2pm and 4pm the fantastic Williamwood Pipe Band will be performing on the square before resident DJ John Ross will be spinning his usual mix of disco, funk and soul to get you in the party mood.

Council leader, Councillor Gordon Matheson, looks forward to bringing in 2015 in the city; "Hogmanayday is a free, day-long celebration for family and friends and the perfect way to say farewell to 2014 and bring in 2015. This year has been truly magical for the city and we're confident Glaswegians will end a phenomenal year on a high."

Mike Cantlay, Chairman of VisitScotland, said: "The spotlight has truly shone on Glasgow throughout 2014 for both the Games and a variety of fantastic Homecoming events celebrating the best of Scotland's rich creativity, cultural and ancestral heritage. Next year, we celebrate our natural larder in the Year of Food and Drink 2015, and Glasgow's Hogmanay celebrations will certainly whet the appetite of those who appreciate Scotland's world famous produce.

"The range of events unveiled today offers something for everyone and are a wonderful way to bring down the curtain on a truly unforgettable year for the city and kick start what promises to be a great 2015 for Glasgow."

No ticket is required for entry to George Square; however there may be times where the venue is full, at such times a queuing system will be put into operation.
