Murphy, a four-year-old black cockapoo – a cross between a poodle and cocker spaniel – returned home to Milngavie earlier today.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said Murphy had been found by a member of the public at 1am in Bishopbriggs.
A spokesman for charity Help2Rehome said a family friend, Corinne, told them the family pet was “treated to two dinners in the early hours of the morning, and lots of treats”.
His owner wanted to thank everyone who helped share Murphy’s appeal and Help2Rehome Scotland, he said.
“Corinne told us it was amazing to have him back,” he added.
Murphy’s ordeal began when he was in the car outside the Virgin Active Gym, in Strathblane Road, Milngavie, and it was stolen on Tuesday evening.
A spokesman for the charity said: “Murphy’s owner left the windows open for him as he was only nipping in and out.
A man was seen getting in
and driving off.”
There have not been any arrests in connection with the car theft and the vehicle has not been recovered.
