AN explosive device has been uncovered in the West End of Glasgow.

Police received reports of the "explosive ordinance device", thought to be an old bomb, at around 11am on Thursday after contractors working at Benalder Street, near Dumbarton Road, uncovered it.

A spokeswoman from Police Scotland confirmed that Beith Street at Benalder Street was closed off since the device was discovered, but said "there are no evacuations at present."

Officers from the force's Explosive Ordinance Division are investigating at the site, which is in a residential area close to Kelvinhall Subway station.

Roads in the area reopened around 1pm.
