Rush hour commuters caught up in seven vehicle pile up

TWO people were rushed to hospital today after a horrific seven-vehicle pile-up which closed a busy road.

Rush-hour commuters were caught up in lengthy delays after the early-morning crash.

Six cars and a motorbike collided at around 8.20am today sparking travel chaos.

Emergency services, including two ambulances, raced to the scene at the A726 Hurlet, near Glasgow Road.

Paramedics treated the motorcyclist at the scene before taking him to the Southern General Hospital.

He is understood to be receiving treatment for a leg injury.

Another person was taken to the same hospital, where the extent of their injuries and condition is not known.

Police closed the Hurlet Road, at Glasgow Road, following the early morning smash.

Drivers heading northbound were diverted from the scene and faced severe tailbacks.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We received a report of a multi-vehicle accident on the the A726 Hurlet at 8.20am today.

"Officers are currently at the scene."

Investigations are expected to be carried out to find out the cause of the accident.

A Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed paramedics were called to the scene.

She said: "Two casualties have been taken to the Southern General Hospital."

Meanwhile, an accident on one of country's busiest motorways sparked travel misery.

The lengthy delays began after the collision shortly before 9am on the north-bound carriageway of the M74 at Polmadie Road.

One lane was closed while the road was cleared. It re-opened at around 9.30am.
