Rory McIlroy and Lewis Hamilton will battle it out to win the prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the Year award after being confirmed among this year's shortlist of 10 contenders.
Double major winner McIlroy is a heavy odds-on favourite to become the first golfer to win the award since Nick Faldo in 1989, having also helped Europe to Ryder Cup success.
But Hamilton's second Formula One world title in Abu Dhabi on Sunday has also left him in the running for the prize, which will be announced in Glasgow on December 14.
Last year's winner Andy Murray was left off this year's list which was chosen by a panel of former nominees, newspaper sports editors and television sport executives.
Real Madrid star Gareth Bale, boxer Carl Froch, world gymnastics silver medallist Max Whitlock and multiple European and Commonwealth Games swimming gold medallist Adam Peaty all make the list.
Winter Olympic gold medallist Lizzy Yarnold and Britain's first Winter Paralympic champion Kelly Gallagher - with her guide Charlotte Evans - are joined by veteran European athletics champion Jo Pavey and all-conquering dressage rider Charlotte Dujardin on the shortlist.
