A MAN has died of swine flu in Glasgow's Victoria Infirmary.

Colin Campbell, from the Isle of Skye, passed away at the hospital on Monday, NHS Highland said.

He had contracted the H1N1 virus, otherwise known as swine flu.

A spokeswoman for NHS Highland said: "Across the whole of Scotland there has been a very low incidence of flu cases in Scotland this winter.

"The H1N1 virus, so called swine flu, is just one of the routine winter flu strains that circulate every winter now.

"It causes the same type of symptoms and illness as any other strain of flu.

"Many people will have natural immunity from exposure to the H1N1 virus during the pandemic in 2009/10.

"H1N1 is also one of the strains in this year's flu vaccine, so flu vaccination will give some protection."

The health board said this was an isolated case.

The health board added that this was an isolated case.
The 2009 swine flu pandemic saw 1542 people admitted to hospital in Scotland, with 69 recorded deaths.
The majority of deaths occurred in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde area.
