Commuters faced a slow start after a broken down car caused travel misery.
The vehicle caused tailbacks in the northbound carriageway of the M74 from around 8:30 am on Monday.
Queues stretched back between the Raith Interchange and Hamilton junctions.
Police and recovery engineers worked on site to remove the vehicle and one lane was closed for more than an hour.
Traffic returned to normal around 9am after crews cleared the broken down car.
