Emergency crews rushed to the scene at the M8 between the Great Western Road and Craighall junctions at around 7.00am this morning.
One traveller was taken to the Royal Infirmary after the two-car collision on the eastbound stretch of road, but nobody else is thought to have been injured,
Two lanes were closed after the incident causing traffic chaos for hundreds of commuters travelling through the area.
Queues stretched back as far as Glasgow Airport, with traffic almost at a standstill for nine miles.
Another collision 25 minutes later further compounded the travel misery, and saw one person taken to the Royal Infirmary.
The incident involving a white van and a car happened around 7.25 am in the westbound direction, between the Townhead and Craighall section of the busy road.
Two lanes were closed off and traffic backed up for three miles until the Queenslie junction.
Curious motorists slowed down to look at the accident site, causing even more delays on the already congested road.
Public transport services using the M8 was also affected, with many passengers taking to social media network Twitter to vent their frustrations.
One express bus, which was travelling from Wishaw to Glasgow, is thought to have taken more than an hour and a half to reach the city.
