Another collision 25 minutes later further compounded the travel misery, and saw one person taken to the Royal Infirmary.

The incident involving a white van and a car happened around 7.25 am in the westbound direction, between the Townhead and Craighall section of the busy road.

Two lanes were closed off and traffic backed up for three miles until the Queenslie junction.

Curious motorists slowed down to look at the accident site, causing even more delays on the already congested road.
