Crews from three fire stations were needed to put out the blaze in Pollokshields on Tuesday morning.

A man and woman were saved from the blaze that ripped through the two-storey Sherbrook Avenue property.

Four appliances, from Govan, Pollok and Polmadie, were needed to tackle flames both inside and outside of the house.

The man and woman were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene but did not need hospital treatment.

Specialist officers are now investigating the cause of the fire while Glasgow City Council building control officers attended the scene to advise on the safety of the property.

Group Manager Owen Hanratty, the incident commander, said: "Crews arrived within four minutes and found the first floor and the roof space of the house were already well-alight.

"A man and woman appeared to have sustained smoke inhalation and an ambulance was called to provide them with precautionary check-ups at the scene.

"Thankfully they did not need hospital treatment, but the consequences of a fire like this can be truly heart-breaking. Even where no-one is seriously hurt, fire in the home can be deeply traumatic.

"The loss of cherished possessions and the potentially terrifying experience often mean fire has an emotional impact that lasts a very long time."
