Walking stick killer jailed for 20 years

A thug who murdered a 64-year-old grandfather in a barbaric attack with a metal walking stick was today jailed for a minimum of 20 years.

Graeme McLaren, 47, was given a life term by Judge Rita Rae, QC, when he appeared for sentence this morning at the High Court in Glasgow.

He had been found guilty yesterday of skewering James Small with the walking aid at his flat in Greenock in June, leaving him with horrific internal injuries.

McLaren, of Greenock had sought to smear the character of his victim

by making false sexual allegations about him.
