UNION officials have launched a legal appeal to ensure all nursery-aged children in Glasgow have access to a teacher.
The Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) says that, to ensure they receive the best start to their education, pre-school kids should have regular and meaningful input from a qualified nursery teacher as well as early years workers.
It says that without legal enforcement, a Scottish Government policy of providing children with access to a nursery teacher can not be guaranteed.
As a result, some children have more access to qualified nursery teachers than others.
The appeal is to be heard before the Inner House of the Court of Session.
EIS General Secretary Larry Flanagan said: "The EIS believes that qualified nursery teachers are an essential part of quality education provision in nursery schools."
