ONE of Scotland's top businesswomen is to join Glasgow Caledonian University to lead its global business development programme.

Professor Lesley Sawers, chief executive of the Scottish Council for Development and Industry, will take up the new role of vice principal for Business Development at the university this summer.

She has held senior appointments in Scotland and internationally, including with the Royal Mail Group, ScottishPower, CACI, Management Horizons and VisitScotland.

Principal and vice chancellor of the university, Professor Pamela Gillies, said she was "delighted" with the appointment.
