UNIONS vowed to keep up their fight over pay for university staff after a day of strikes across Scotland.
Buildings were closed and classes disrupted at universities in Glasgow yesterday as members of the University and Colleges Union (UCU) and the Unite and Unison unions picketed.
As well as lecturers, support staff, such as cleaners and security officers, joined in.
Striking staff picketed outside Glasgow, Strathclyde and Caledonian universities, as well as West of Scotland University and Glasgow School of Art. The strike forced the closure of Glasgow University's library and the Hunterian Museum.
It came after staff were offered a 1% pay rise. This was deemed insufficient by union members as they claim it will leave workers with a real-terms pay cut of 13% since 2008.
Glasgow UCU Scotland president Dave Armstrong said: "We have no choice but to strike and we will keep fighting."
