BUSINESS is booming at an expanding retail village after a historic pub reopened following a £180,000 renovation.
The Osprey Vintage Inn joins big names such as Waitrose, Tesco and Premier Inn who have committed to ploughing cash into the local economy through their bases at Greenlaw retail village, Newton Mearns.
Hundreds of jobs have been created at the village and, in recent months, two restaurants have also opened at the site.
Hotel chain Whitbread is also expected to open a Beefeater Grill restaurant and Premier Inn hotel next month, creating at least 53 jobs. The Whitbread investment alone is estimated to be worth about £6million to the local economy.
Last month, the Evening Times reported that restaurant Zyka Bar and Grill had become the newest addition to the successful Greenlaw Village development.
Gleniffer Estates, the company behind the village development, has also landed Fast food operator IKA Foods as a tenant on a 20-year lease at a rental of £25,000 a year.
The Osprey Vintage Inn. in Stewarton Road, has been operating as a pub in one form or another since the 1890s, but its owners believe its facelift will bring it right up to date, without compromising on its heritage.
Landlord Dean Harrison said: “The renovations will make a big difference to the overall mood and atmosphere.
“We will have a clean, contemporary look, but the tasteful restoration is in keeping with the character of a magnificent old building.”
In 1891 The Osprey was known as Over Greenlaw Farm and was worked by sisters Elizabeth and Mary Smith.
By the time of the 1901 census, the farm was owned by a David Anderson, who lived there with his wife and eight children.
Bryan Wilson, managing director of Gleniffer Estates, said: “Given the difficult economic environment we are delighted with the progress Greenlaw has made in recent months.”
