A GROUP of dedicated West Dunbartonshire residents reached the finals of a top national award for their efforts to keep a local beauty spot clean.

The volunteers from Old Kilpatrick were shortlisted for the prestigious Clean Britain Awards for their work in the village's Lusset Glen.

The group organises monthly litter picks as well as a targeted annual clean-up to ensure the Glen remains an attractive spot for themselves and others in the community to enjoy.

Their efforts are supported by West Dunbartonshire Council's Greenspace team who provide the group with equipment including high visibility vests, gloves, litter pickers and refuse bags and also uplift the litter collected.

The volunteers were nominated for the award by Community Greenspace Officer Linda Adam, who co-ordinates the Community Involvement in Neighbourhoods Project.

Councillor Patrick McGlinchey, Convener of Infrastructure and Regeneration, said: "These residents brave all weathers including rain, wind, ice and snow to ensure their area looks its best.

"They have shown fantastic community spirit and not only pick up litter but also alert our Greenspace team to any fly-tipping or vandalism.

"They are an asset to West Dunbartonshire and it's great to see them recognised for their efforts on a national level."
