FACEBOOK rumours that a delivery office in Lanarkshire was withholding thousands of Referendum postal votes were quashed yesterday.

The rumours that voting cards which had been posted back were being held at Airdrie delivery office spread like wildfire and posties were being confronted in the street over the allegations.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: "There are absolutely no postal votes waiting in Airdrie Delivery Office. The office is clear of all mail.

"This is a slight on the hard working Royal Mail employees who are working flat out to deliver all aspects of mail connected to the referendum."
