YOUNG patients' eyes lit up as a group of Glasgow Warriors created a winter wonderland.

The rugby players and head coach Gregor Townsend joined more than 100 volunteers to put up 37 Christmas trees and 400 metres of festive-themed wallpaper to decorate Yorkhill Hospital for Christmas, before switching on the lights on the hospital's Christmas tree.

Working throughout the day, and using 8000 decorations, the players joined volunteers from firms which support Yorkhill Children's Foundation, including Shell, Morgan Stanley, British Gas, HSBC and SSE Renewables.

The high point was the tree lights' switch on by Gregor and Warriors' captain Al Kellock, who were joined by hundreds of patients, families, staff and volunteers, as well as Peppa Pig, Yorkhill Children's Foundation mascot Kami Bear and Santa Claus.

Ayr Academy Choir and Radio Lollipop entertained the crowd.

Shona Cardle, chief executive of Yorkhill Children's Foundation, said: "The effort put in by our volunteers and staff was tremendous and the support from our corporate partners and Glasgow Warriors has been fantastic.

"I want to thank everyone who has supported our Christmas Appeal, sponsored by McGill's."
