Youngsters in Glasgow’s Castlemilk can now keep healthy and play safely thanks to the launch of a games area.

The outdoor PlayZone was built by community group The Jeely Piece Club after receiving a £200,000 boost from the Scotland Go Play fund.

As well as offering fun activities, a team of play workers will also teach children aged between five to 13, ways to safely enjoy the great outdoors.

These will include play activities around the woods and the water.

Tracy Black, director of the Jeely Piece Club, said: “We want to get kids out into the open environment.

“Some kids come here and they have never even been into Castlemilk park.

“We want to help parents and kids overcome any fears they may have about playing outdoors.”

The Jeely Piece Club provides a pre-5 family centre and a play centre which includes full holiday programmes

and residential holiday slots.
