A TABBY cat was left to die after being cruelly dumped in a country park.
He was rescued by a park ranger, who spotted him at Chatelherault Country Park, in Hamilton.
The cat – which has been named Ranger – was dumped in a pet carrier along with his scratching post, litter tray and food bowls.
Animal welfare workers are caring for Ranger at the Scottish SPCA's Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.
Centre assistant manager, Lorraine Alba said, "Poor Ranger has quite clearly been dumped by his owner.
"Despite his recent trauma he is a lovely little lad who hasn't lost his trust in humans."
In May, the Evening Times reported how a kitten was dumped in a country park.
The cat – named Dora by rescuers – was found in a cardboard box in Motherwell's Strathclyde Park.
A passer-by rescued Dora after she was seen in a wooded area of the park.
Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006.
