FORMER Rangers' owner Craig Whyte was due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court today.

The disgraced businessman had been arrested in Mexico and arrived at Glasgow Airport shortly after 7pm yesterday following a connecting flight from London.

A police spokesman said: "A 43-year-old man has been arrested on an outstanding apprehension warrant in connection with alleged involvement in a fraudulent scheme to acquire Rangers FC and alleged offences in contravention of the Companies Act (2006).

"A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

As reported in later editions of yesterday's Evening Times, the 43-year-old was detained by Mexican authorities and extradition proceedings were set to begin.

However, it is understood Mr Whyte waived his right to challenge the proceedings and returned to the UK.

He was detained just weeks after an arrest warrant was issued in connection with his purchase of the Ibrox club for £1 from Sir David Murray in 2011.
