A WOMAN and two children were rushed to hospital following a deliberate blaze in a tenement close.

Firefighters arrived at Langlands Close in Govan shortly after 7.20pm yesterday and worked to extinguish the flames.

Two young boys were transferred to Yorkhill hospital and the woman was taken to the Southern General after receiving treatment for smoke inhalation.

Station Manager Stephen McGrath said: "Two firefighters in breathing apparatus were able to quickly put out this fire but the smoke it produced had already affected a woman and two small boys inside one of the flats.

"Even small fires produce toxic smoke that threatens lives. Communal closes are obviously confined spaces so any fire in them is incredibly dangerous as the smoke quickly travels to properties and endangers people inside."

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) officers have appealed for people who live in flats to make sure their landings and stairwells are kept clear.

The fire is thought to have been started deliberately.
