Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the woman after her car left the A760, near Kilbirnie, in Ayrshire yesterday and stopped on an embankment.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received a call from Police Scotland shortly before 2.50pm reporting one car had been involved in a collision heading towards Lochwinnoch and two people were trapped.

A second woman managed to free herself from the car before emergency crews arrived.
