Craig Kirkwood used a cheeky near-naked photo of himself with a bunch of flowers protecting his modesty to promote his shop in Paisley.
It is claimed the same image was then used on flyers posted through the doors of neighbouring businesses complete with jibes about his sexuality.
Fiona Meikle, 54, is alleged to have delivered the leaflets containing homophobic remarks, to shops in Johnston Street and Causeyside Street, Paisley, on June 18
The flyers showed the photograph of Mr Kirkwood, 31.
In acting in the manner described, it is claimed, she behaved in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause fear and alarm.
When Ms Meikle, of the town's Stockholm Crescent, appeared from custody, defence agent Alastair Gray confirmed that his client denied the offence, brought under the Criminal Justice and Licensing Act of 2010 which alleges aggravation and prejudice relating to sexual orientation.
Sheriff Paul Reid set a trial date for February 23 and released her on bail with special conditions in place requiring her to stay away from Johnston Street
The bail conditions also stated she is not to attempt to contact Mr Kikrwood.
Ms Meikle will return to court for a pre-trial diet when evidence will be led against her.
