FIREFIGHTERS rescued a woman from a car which was overhanging a 20ft embankment.
The vehicle was precariously balanced over the drop in a small village in South Lanarkshire.
Fire chiefs said the woman had to be cut free from the car after the alarm was raised at around 4.30pm on Sunday.
Crews from Biggar and Lanark community fire stations raced to the scene in Thankerton and found one woman still inside the stricken car.
Once the vehicle, which was in Covington Road, was made safe, fire crews began a rescue operation.
Station Manager Tommy Keay, incident commander, said: "The rear of the vehicle was overhanging an embankment with around a 20ft drop.
"Firefighters immediately moved to stabilise it using a Tirfor winch.
"Paramedics advised that the casualty's condition was not time-critical and with the vehicle made safe we began the process of extricating her using hydraulic cutting equipment.
"After being safely released she was moved to an ambulance and taken to Wishaw General Hospital."
The other woman, who had not been trapped in the vehicle, was also taken to hospital.
