A WOMAN who worked as a nurse for more than four years is to face a disciplinary hearing after it was alleged she was not qualified.

Kathryn Ritchie allegedly told bosses at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde she was a fully-qualified registered nurse and landed a job as a staff nurse in 2007.

She continued to work in the position until January, 2012.

She is also alleged to have lied to health bosses that she had carried out 450 hours of practice as a midwife when renewing her registration as a mid- wife in 2008 and 2011.

Ms Ritchie, 54, from Milngavie, will face a Nursing and Midwifery Council disciplinary hearing next month.

She is alleged to have worked as a Band 5 Staff nurse for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde between October 1, 2007, and January 23, 2012, but was not "qualified or registered" as a nurse.

The charges are said to have happened in West Dunbartonshire, where the Vale of Leven hospital is based.

Another charge states that in July 2008, while applying of a position on a public health nursing course at the University of West Scotland, Ms Ritchie stated on an application form that she held the qualification of a state registered nurse when that was not the case.

When renewing her registration as a midwife on January 24, 2008, and on February 5, 2011, she is alleged to have claimed she had 450 hours of practice as a midwife in the preceding three years when this was not the case.

Ms Ritchie is facing six charges of misconduct and will appear before the NMC between September 8 and 12.

A spokeswoman for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said: "We await the outcome of the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) hearing and it would be inappropriate to comment on the allegations against this individual at this stage.

"However, we can confirm that this individual is not currently employed by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde."
