The 50-year-old member of staff was injured in a disturbance after two men, one with a sword, targeted Glasgow's RM Jewellers in Forfar Avenue, Cardonald. The thugs made off empty handed after threatening the staff member and a female colleague about 3pm on Monday.

Police said the suspects escaped in a Skoda Octavia, heading towards Paisley Road West.

Detective Inspector Ian Hylands, of Helen Street CID, said: "These men were determined to rob this shop and were armed with weapons, including a sword, to do so.

"Thankfully the man in the shop was not seriously injured but this could have had terrible consequences.

"The area was busy at the time with shoppers and to be in possession of a sword in a crowded area is outrageous.

"I would appeal to anyone who saw the car make off, or indeed, saw it or the men in the area prior to or after the incident."

One of the suspects was described as white, aged between 20 and 22, slim and clean shaven. He was wearing a dark grey hooded top with the hood up and spoke with a Glasgow accent.

The other man was also white, 20 years old, 5ft 7in tall, slim and clean-shaven.

He was wearing a dark coloured hooded top and jogging bottoms.

Anyone with information should contact Helen Street Police Office on 0141 532 5400 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
