For fans of organ music there’s no bigger name than Phil Kelsall.
World renowned as the resident organist at the famous Tower Ballroom, Blackpool, Kelsall swapped the seaside resort for Glasgow yesterday to play a concert at Pollokshaws Burgh Hall.
Regarded as one of the most accomplished player in the business, he entertained the packed house with songs from a bygone era on the hall’s Wurlitzer cinema organ – the last surviving one in Scotland.
“The bulk of people here today are here to listen to a good old tune and be reminded of their youth,” he said. “They used to go to the cinema and see these organs come out of the floor. It’s a great nostalgia kick.”
