A GLASGOW mum has made it through to the X Factor's final 24 acts.

Melanie Masson, 44, who is the wife of Scots actor Forbes Masson, will be mentored by Gary Barlow if she makes it to the live shows.

The mum-of-two, from Cathcart, impressed the judges with a soulful rendition of Sam Cooke's A Change Is Gonna Come.

Melanie, who now lives in London, has been a session vocalist with the likes of Altered Images, Sheena Easton, Fatboy Slim and the Happy Mondays.

However, in her local area she is better known as "Fairy" as she runs weekly music session for under-fives called Fairy Flutterby's Little Rock-a-Byes.

She has two children – daughter Rua, four, and son Ramsay, two – and has said The X Factor is her "last chance" of a music career.

She said: "The whole experience has been so positive for me. Whatever happens, I won't feel I could have done better. It's kept me awake at night, thinking, 'Am I good enough?'.

"But everyone here is talented and it's out of my hands now."

She said she was "thrilled" at the prospect of being mentored by Gary Barlow. She said: "He's a songwriter, a singer and a performer and has been for 20 years.

"That's an incredible achievement and, more than the other judges, I think he will be able to teach me and help me achieve my dreams of being a professional singer."
